Default SS mesmer > SS necro

I have been playing my mesmer as an SS and she does very well PvE. I can cast SS alot more than a necro SS can on average and w/ leech signet and power drain I rarely have to worry about energy. True, the SS necro can use awaken the blood and do a little bit higher damage with SS, but the amount of targets a mesmer can cast it on outweighs that.

Me/N
Armor: I use radiant armor with minor fast cast, sup vigor, minor ispiration, and attunement runes.
Weapons: I use Cure wand with 20/20 HCT and HSR, and I use a Curse offhand +1 curses (20%) hp+ 30.
Skills:
Arcane Echo
SpiteFul Spirit (E)
Desecrate Enchantments
Parasitic Bond
Reckless Haste
Leech Signet
Power Drain
(optional slot) Res or skill cap or whatever.
Attributes:
Curses - max
Fast Cast - 9
inspiartion - rest of points

This build works very well for me in Elona. I just flag my warrior hero to take aggro, and then cast SS on alternating targets. This build works best if you lock your hero on healers first. Also, a well placed desecrate enchantments can be devestating to a group low on health. I know this is a common build, but I have not seen it posted. Feel free to leave comments or suggestions.

How do you cast it "a lot more" than a Necro? Fast Casting reduces SS from a 2 second cast to something like a 1.5 second cast, that's all. I'd rather have the additional damage from 16 Curses and energy from Soul Reaping.

Its acually 1.05 seconds verses 2 seconds. At level 14 Fast cast you have 52% cast time or 191% cast speed. Combine that with 20% chance to half your casting time by 20% and you are looking very pretty. Also, as far as energy goes, you get about 9 energy per death with level 9 soul reaping. That is nice, but it requires things to die first. With leech sig (+10 energy + interupt) and power drain (+21 energy + interupt), you get instant energy to recast spells. Soul reaping is great for E managment, dont get me wrong, but I feel this is a viable build for PvE.

RitualEro is right about the cast time. However, the decreased cast time still doesn't outweight the damage increase by increased Curse level (12v16)...especially when the Curse nec can also use 20/20 wand/focus combo.

So if you compare Me/N to N/Me on using SS, N/Me still wins.

This build utterly sucks compared to a SS Necro with 16 curses.

Casting time for a hex is completely an utterly irrelevant. Who cares how fast you cast it when it lasts for 20 seconds?

Necros get 16 Curses. Mesmers get 12 Curses. Thus Mesmers are inferior. Simple as that.

Your "cast SS more than a SS Necro" is a complete and utter lie. Fast Casting affects cast time, not recharge. It makes no difference.

Why not make fast cast Monks! They can infuse a target in .125 seconds!!!!

Whoah. The sudden animosity in this thread is nuts!
Was it the greater than symbol in the title that completely ticked some of these people off? Because I didn't see any bashing and insulting by the OP.
I'd rather have a necro using Arcane Echo SS than a mesmer too, but whoah!

Well there is a truth to what the OP is saying, the faster you cast the skill, the faster you'll see it recharged again, although if you're only casting it a second earlier it's not that great of an improvement.

Cast 1 second faster vs. 3 second extra duration + 8 more damage per hit/spell

YOU DECIDE!

Usually, I'm more worried about the recharge time of SS, so a N/ME using a 20/20 or now a 20/40 (Modti's Depravation) weapon may actually be well off damage-wise.

In addition, the way I see it, energy management via signets/spells is often tedious. If a battle involves a lot of deaths (especially in PvE), a N/ME is well-off due to energy coming from soul-reaping attribute. However, in PvP, I think a Me/N (using the above build) is more of a welcome since the death-rate is much lower.

If you're in PvP using a spiteful spirit build, you should stop PvPing.
